Quick Definition

Page speed measures how quickly a website fully loads - an important ranking factor.

What is Page Speed?

Page speed refers to the time needed until a web page is fully loaded. It has been an official Google ranking factor since 2010 and part of Core Web Vitals since 2021. Important metrics: Time to First Byte (TTFB), First Contentful Paint (FCP), Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Time to Interactive (TTI). Optimization options: compress images (WebP format), use browser caching, minify JavaScript and CSS, use CDN, inline critical CSS, lazy loading for images, improve server response time. Tools: Google PageSpeed Insights, GTmetrix, WebPageTest. Goal: LCP under 2.5 seconds.

Key Points

  • Official Google ranking factor
  • Part of Core Web Vitals (LCP)
  • Affects bounce rate and conversions
  • 53% of users leave pages that take more than 3s to load
  • Mobile speed often more critical than desktop
  • Tools: PageSpeed Insights, GTmetrix

Practical Example

“Through image optimization and CDN, we reduced loading time from 5 to 1.8 seconds.”
